15 POUNDS!

We saw Dr. Adams Tuesday for Jacob's 4 month well baby check up (5 days shy of 16 weeks). He was 15 pounds and 6 ounces (70th%ile) and 23 3/4 inches (10th%ile). He has tripled his birth weight and is now the equivalent of three bags of sugar (and every bit as sweet!).

The doctor said we could start trying rice or oatmeal cereal now. It seems really early to me but it might help him sleep through the night. She said babies are typically ready between 4 and 6 months. Of course I didn't think to ask if we should adjust his age by the 5 weeks he was early and wait a little longer before trying it. She told us to try it with a spoon and if he's not ready, we can put it in his bottle and then try again with the spoon in a week. I think I will get some tomorrow (or later this morning actually). It might seem strange though not to be up at 3am! Well it looks like my baby is asleep so it's time for us to go to be again.

Baptism

We had Jacob's baptism on Sunday, June 21 (Father's Day!). It was just perfect! Rev. Tracy did a wonderful job with the ceremony. We had lunch with about 17 friends and family after. The weather sort of held out with just a little rain. There were five kids, three who were in and out, and 4 dogs, all of whom stayed out, except for one puppy that peed on the floor. But that's ok. It wasn't the first time someone peed on the floor and I'm sure it won't be the last! I've really come a long way in terms of relaxing out the house. What a mess it is and I don't even care!

Big Boy Bed

Jacob has outgrown his bassinet and graduated to a big boy crib! We borrowed this wonderful crib from my friend Sue so that we could have one upstairs also. I'm not ready for him to sleep downstairs at night yet, but he is taking naps in his bedroom now.

Blood work

Jacob had a CBC blood test re-done this week. We used the Emla numbing cream which worked great! Thanks Mom and Kimmy for telling us about this. I just don't understand why the doctors don't give it to all babies?! Why cause them pain if you don't have to? Dr. Wood called with the results yesterday and his hemoglobin was totally normal at 12.1 and his neutraphil count had improved a bit (up 214 points to 655). He still has a ways to go, low normal is 1200, but at least it's heading in the right direction. The doctor was happy with it and so are we. We will have it redone in 2-3 months.

First Trip

We went on our first mini vacation with Jacob last weekend. Our friends Ryan and Sue got married in the Adirondacks, on Fourth Lake in Inlet, NY. It was a three hour car ride and Jacob hardly made a peep. What a good boy! He seemed to enjoy being some place new... he was very alert looking around at everything. The lake was beautiful with trees and mountains surrounding it. The wedding was at an inn on the lake with the ceremony out on the dock. The bride was beautiful (and the groom was handsome, of course!).

Next comes the 14 or so hour flight to Maui. We'll see what kind of traveler Jacob really is!
