A long trip...

It all started Wednsday morning at 4:30 when I woke up an hour before I had to, because of course you can never sleep well the night before traveling (when you really need to!).  Jacob woke up just before 5:00 and was so excited to go.  We left the house at 6:10 (10 minutes behind schedule) for our 9:00 flight out of Burlington to Chicago.  We parked, checked in, made it through security, and started waiting.  Just before 9:00 they said there were mechanical problems with the plane and that a mechanic was coming.  At 9:30 they cancelled the flight, said to go pick up our luggage at baggage claim, and to call United or see the ONE agent there to rebook!  It was like they basically said, "Cancelled! Good luck!"  Amazingly Ted got us on an 11:30 (I think) flight to Philly- we were the last ones on the plane!  We had to switch to USAir, which was a bummer because there is not as much room on their planes and they make you feel like you are an inconvenience.  We had two hours in PA, then left for LAX on a 5 hour flight.  Jacob was a good boy for the most part, just a few airport episodes of yelling at us.  I'm pretty sure this was our first time though LA.  It's HUGE!  Of course we were swiching from USAir back to United so we had to go outside, take a bus, then go back through security for the third time.  Jacob enjoyed the bus ride but some stupid guy pulled his heavy, hard suitcase off the top shelf on the bus with one hand dropping it onto Jacob $250 carseat that I made Ted cary though the airport because I didn't want it to get broken from being checked as luggage!!!  It broke the arm rest on the carseat!  OMG I was so mad!  So we made it onto the third plane for an almost 5 hour flight only to be told there were hydrolic issues that needed to be checked out.  They said it was minor and didn't think it was a problem.  It was fixed and we left about a half hour late, arriving in Maui at 10:00 pm.  Luckily we got our bags quickly and just made it to the bus to the car rental place minutes before they were scheduled to close at 10:30.  We got a pretty new Dodge Grand Caravan and headed to the grocery store and Maui Sunset.  Ted had called about the late check in to the condo so a key was left.  Unfortunately they only left they key to the doorknob, and not the deadbolt, which was also locked, so at midnight after being up for 26 hours and traveling 5,000+ miles with a 3 year old we had to wander around Maui Sunset looking for the security guy to let us in!!!  All along we keep saying... "Is this really worth it?!?"  I guess in a few days it will be.  But right now I feel like I've been chewed up, spit out, and run over, all while I deal with a short tempered jet lagged 3 year old that gets up at 3am!  You just can't make this stuff up.  Okay enough venting and complaining... time to enjoy Maui!  I'll try to take some pictures today and post them later.  Aloha
