Ho'okipa
We went to Ho'okipa today. Jacob got to meet Yoshiko. She is very kind and loving toward children. Jacob also got his first kiss from a little girl, Sumomo, and flirted with Cathy. In the background you can see Sumomo's jokester father, Hide, who never cooperates for photos.

Happy 4th of July
Jacob went for his first swim this morning in the Maui Sunset pool. He seemed to really enjoy it... worked up an appetite, and is now asleep. Perfect!
He slept well last night but cried some before going to bed. It took me a little while to figure out he was still hungry (how stupid can I be!). He slept from 7 to midnight and 1 to 5:30. Not too bad. Although our friends Pierre and Annick's 7 week old son Kai sleeps 8 hours! They are going to give us lessons.
Presents for Jacob
Jacob made his first visit to Ho'okipa Beach and got to see everyone.. Lee and Cathy, Bob and Phoebe, Eri and Kazu, Motoko, Hide and Sumomo, and more. Jacob's new nickname is kawaii, which is Japanese for 'cutie'. He was welcomed with gifts from our friends already! Thank you to Motoko, Hide and Sumo for the Japanese/English song book and Eri and Kazu for the great shirts!
Eri took a nice photo of us, see it on her blog : http://wind.ap.teacup.com/food/

Aloha!
We made it! The trip was great... We used miles to upgrade to first class and Jacob was an angel. The first night was a little tougher. I think Jacob got over stimulated which resulted in a lot of crying and getting up every two hours. He had a good day yesterday but still lots of crying last night when going to bed. It makes me so sad. He did sleep better, which is good. We will see what today brings. The sun is shining and birds are singing!

15 POUNDS!

We saw Dr. Adams Tuesday for Jacob's 4 month well baby check up (5 days shy of 16 weeks). He was 15 pounds and 6 ounces (70th%ile) and 23 3/4 inches (10th%ile). He has tripled his birth weight and is now the equivalent of three bags of sugar (and every bit as sweet!).
The doctor said we could start trying rice or oatmeal cereal now. It seems really early to me but it might help him sleep through the night. She said babies are typically ready between 4 and 6 months. Of course I didn't think to ask if we should adjust his age by the 5 weeks he was early and wait a little longer before trying it. She told us to try it with a spoon and if he's not ready, we can put it in his bottle and then try again with the spoon in a week. I think I will get some tomorrow (or later this morning actually). It might seem strange though not to be up at 3am! Well it looks like my baby is asleep so it's time for us to go to be again.
Baptism

We had Jacob's baptism on Sunday, June 21 (Father's Day!). It was just perfect! Rev. Tracy did a wonderful job with the ceremony. We had lunch with about 17 friends and family after. The weather sort of held out with just a little rain. There were five kids, three who were in and out, and 4 dogs, all of whom stayed out, except for one puppy that peed on the floor. But that's ok. It wasn't the first time someone peed on the floor and I'm sure it won't be the last! I've really come a long way in terms of relaxing out the house. What a mess it is and I don't even care!
